Leather & Leather Goods

Leather & Leather Goods: production orders and BOM, stock and warehouse, quality and reporting.

Challenges

  • Leather is bought by the square foot but products are sold by the piece, so the two units are never linked.
  • Leather grade and its flawed areas are ignored, so cutting waste is discussed by guesswork.
  • Handcraft stages are not recorded, so nobody knows which item is waiting with which craftsman.
  • With no bill of materials per model, the cost of leather, lining and metal hardware never lands correctly in the price.

Workflows

From leather purchase to cutting

  1. Leather purchases enter stock measured in square feet (square decimetres) and tagged with a quality grade.
  2. The model's bill of materials defines the leather area and hardware needed per item.
  3. A cutting order is opened; the gap between the area used and the theoretical area is recorded as waste.

From handcraft to delivery

  1. Edge painting, stitching and assembly stages are tracked in sequence on the production order.
  2. Quality control separates first and second quality; each is booked to its own stock item.
  3. Approved items are attached to the delivery note broken down by model and colour.

FAQ

Can I track leather by area measurement?

Yes — the stock item is kept in square feet (square decimetres), and item counts are linked to it through the model recipe.

Can I measure cutting waste?

Yes — the theoretical area in the recipe is compared with the area actually used, and the gap lands in the per-model waste report.

Can I separate leather by quality grade?

Yes — every leather lot is received with a quality grade tag, and the cutting order draws from the stock of the grade you specify.

Can I track the handcraft stages?

Yes — edge painting, stitching and assembly are separate stages, and the list shows which item is waiting with which craftsman.

Can I see the cost per item?

Yes — leather area, hardware and labour are summed from the model recipe, and unit cost with profit margin is reported.
