Wire & Cable

Wire & Cable: production orders and BOM, stock and warehouse, quality and reporting.

Challenges

  • Copper prices move daily, so a fixed price list means selling at a loss.
  • Drums and running length are tracked by piece, so the remaining length is unknown.
  • Cross-section and conductor tests go unrecorded, so customer complaints cannot be settled with evidence.
  • Short off-cuts left on drums never show in stock, so they cannot be resold.

Workflows

From copper intake to production

  1. Copper and insulation raw materials enter stock with a batch number.
  2. The production order is opened with cross-section, insulation type and target length.
  3. Drawing, insulating and winding operations are tracked at the work center.

From drum to dispatch

  1. Finished cable is received into stock with its drum number and length.
  2. Cross-section and conductivity test results are written to the batch card.
  3. The ordered length is cut from the drum and the remaining length updates in stock.

Documents

  • Copper and raw-material batch card
  • Drum stock and running-length record
  • Test and conformity report
  • Delivery note (drum / length)

Reports

  • Copper cost and price variance
  • Remaining length by drum
  • Scrap and short off-cut report
  • Test results and rejection rate

Metrics

  • Copper consumption yield

  • Remaining-length turnover rate
  • Test rejection rate

Compliance

  • CE and Low Voltage Directive conformity
  • Cable reaction-to-fire (CPR) class declaration
  • RoHS hazardous substance restriction

Glossary

Drum (reel)
A stock unit that holds running length and tracks the remainder
Copper index
A cost parameter that refreshes the price list
Cross-section
A technical attribute field on the product card (mm²)
Short off-cut
Remaining length tracked as a separate stock item

FAQ

Can I update my selling price according to the copper price?

Yes — when the cost parameter changes, the price list is recalculated with the coefficient.

Can I see the length remaining on a drum?

Yes — each drum is its own stock unit; cut length is deducted and the remainder shows instantly.

Can I link test results to the shipment?

Yes — the test record on the batch card is attached to the delivery note and the customer file.

Can I sell drums with short remnants?

Yes — the remnant length sits in stock as a separate item and can be sold from a discounted list.

Can I calculate the cost per kilogram?

Yes — copper, insulation, energy and labour accumulate on the production order and become a unit cost.
