Coachwork & Trailers

Coachwork & Trailers: production orders and BOM, stock and warehouse, quality and reporting.

Challenges

  • Every body-building job is different, so costs cannot be gathered per chassis.
  • Modification approvals and project documents are not linked to the vehicle file, so registration drags on.
  • Sheet metal, profiles and hydraulic sets are not tied to a bill of materials, so stock never reconciles.
  • The stage a job has reached is chased up by phone with the customer, and the delivery date slips.

Workflows

From vehicle intake to fabrication

  1. A work order is opened with the chassis number and vehicle details.
  2. The body type and its dimensions are turned into a bill of materials.
  3. Cutting, welding and assembly operations are tracked on the work order.

From paint to modification approval

  1. Painting and final assembly are completed and quality control is carried out.
  2. Modification drawings and inspection certificates are added to the vehicle file.
  3. The handover record is signed and the invoice is issued.

FAQ

Can I accumulate costs per vehicle?

Yes. Material, labour and subcontract costs accumulate together on the chassis-numbered work order.

Can I attach modification documents to the vehicle?

Yes. Drawings and inspection reports are kept in the document archive of the vehicle file.

Do the materials used come off stock?

Yes. Once the body bill of materials is defined, sheet metal, profiles and the hydraulic set are deducted automatically.

Can I see which stage a job is at?

Yes. Work-order stages are updated, and the date promised to the customer rests on them.

Can I plan workshop capacity?

Yes. Each workshop bay is a work centre, and open jobs are scheduled against its capacity.
