Jewelry

Jewelry: gram/fine price, serial tracking, stocktaking.

Challenges

  • The gold price moves during the day and label prices are updated by hand.
  • Grams, fineness (karat) and workmanship are each calculated and then added up by hand.
  • The fine-gold equivalent is not tracked, so profit in lira and profit in grams get confused.
  • Items held in custody or pawn and scrap-gold buy-ins run off the books.

Workflows

From purchase to sale

  1. The item is set up with gram, fineness and workmanship fields.
  2. The selling price is computed from the current gram price plus workmanship.
  3. The sale is recorded both in lira and in fine-gold equivalent.

Scrap-gold buy-in

  1. The incoming gold is weighed with its gram and fineness, and a purchase document is issued.
  2. The fine-gold equivalent enters stock.
  3. The customer is paid out or the amount is offset.

FAQ

Do labels update when the gram price changes?

Yes — the selling price is computed from the current gram price rather than being tied to a fixed label price.

Can I track the fine-gold equivalent?

Yes — the item is tracked both in units/lira and in grams of fine gold.

Can I record scrap-gold purchases?

Yes — a purchase document with gram and fineness is issued and the fine-gold equivalent enters stock.

Can I show the making charge separately?

Yes, the price is calculated in two lines: the gram value and the making charge.

Can I track items held in custody and repair jobs?

Yes, an item taken into custody is linked to the customer record and its delivery date is tracked.
